Hans-Peter Weber, DMD, Dr. Med. Dent., Professor of Prosthodontics Emeritus at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, holds dental degrees from the University of Berne, Switzerland (1976) and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (1990), as well as Certificates in Prosthodontics (1979) and Periodontology (1984) from the University of Berne. He served a Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine from 1994-2010, and as Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at Tufts from 2010-2018. Since his retirement from full-time academic dentistry, he serves as Clinical Director and Prosthodontist at ClearChoice Quincy, MA, where he provides implant-prosthodontic patient care. He maintains a part-time teaching involvement in postgraduate Prosthodontics at Tufts. An Honorary Member of the American College of Prosthodontists, he is the Immediate Past President of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics and a Past President of the Academy of Prosthodontics


Technical and/or biological complications with dental implants and restorations are a regular occurrence in daily practice today. It is the purpose of this presentation to highlight types of complications, their diagnosis and etiology. Approaches on how to prevent or, if necessary, treat some of the most frequent complications will be discussed.


Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Realize that implant complications are not uncommon in daily practice

  • Consider best ways to avoid complications

  • Properly diagnose peri-implant health and disease and initiate treatment
