Soft tissue deformities present unique challenges for the dental team. Techniques to thicken phenotypes, cover exposed roots, and/or increased the band of attached, keratinized tissue have evolved with the introduction of different graft materials. In more compromised situations, a combined perio-restorative approach can achieve both functional and esthetic outcomes. Learning to readily diagnose and treat mucogingival defects will set reasonable clinical expectations and improve long-term health and marginal stability.
Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:
Diagnose mucogingival conditions using the new classification system
Identify site, patient, and esthetic-related risk factors for mucogingival therapy
Avoid and manage a variety of problems in mucogingival surgery
Determine need for adjunctive restorative treatment around soft tissue defects
